A Lick Off the Spoon

I have been writing in my book and thought I'd let you try out the "dough" of my "cookie" book! Here's a taste of my book:

At noon Fox wildly cleaned as Zar organized Dron’s things on his desk. Fox made Dron’s bed and picked up the sheets he had used during the night off the floor. He swept and scrubbed the floor. While he did so, Zar relaxed in the comforts of an armchair. Fox gathered up the last remaining stuff off the floor as the lock clicked and Dron entered, with his head hung low.

“What is wrong, Dron?” asked Zar, getting up, with a concerned look on his face.

Dron sighed, “They decided that they will be a part of the deal I made with Fox-- he must do community service for the entire village.”

Zar looked alarmed, “And--?”

“And they want him to go to court in a few weeks for them to distribute punishments and jobs for him.”

Fox’s heart sank. So, I trusted this man? He’s only making it worst for me! More work? I could barely clean up this house within five hours! Fox thought, glaring at the old storyteller, “You know what? The deal’s off! I can’t do this anymore!” He started for the door.

“Hold on a moment, young man!” Zar reached out and turned Fox around, “You made a commitment that you cannot break, now! You have only just begun! And if you walk out that door, there goes with you, the chance to set yourself to rights!

“To boldly say in the court of law that you have been tried and found innocent in the judge’s eyes! Deep down in your hardened heart, you must want that!”

Fox looked down at his uneasy feet. It was true, for years he wanted to be found innocent. But being raised in a den of thieves had cut his chances of that completely! Until now-- now he had the chance of a lifetime to bring himself to a level of equality!

“Am I right?” asked Zar, looking deep into the eyes of the rather guilty soul that stood next to him.
